Making Rangatahi Feel Good

Knowing that everyone has a right to feel loved, valued and respected, Live for More was set up to offer surf therapy programmes to our young people. Learn how our team at Mercury Arena Cafe have gotten involved!

When it’s hard to find meaning in life, it’s hard to feel good about yourself as well. This is particularly true for young people and especially rangatahi with troubled pasts. Maybe they have a disadvantaged background, or maybe they’ve made some choices in life that weren’t for the best. Sometimes, it’s both.

Knowing that everyone has a right to feel loved, valued and respected, Live for More was set up to offer surf therapy programmes to our young people who haven’t always had opportunities come their way. Riding the waves not only keeps these young ones occupied and develops new skills, but it also builds relationships, trust, discipline and purpose. These nine-week programmes run three times per year. Live For More wants to help meet needs in the community so that these young ones can cope with the “life waves” that come along, helping them to make the most of opportunities and personal growth.

But it’s hungry work surfing the waves! Our team at Mercury Arena Cafe knows this all too well, and in their bid to offer a better future for others in the community, paid-it-forward 17 meals to Live For More for the almost-always-hungry rangatahi!

Our Mercury Arena Café is part of our Mercury Arena complex at 81 Truman Lane in Mount Maunganui. The modern café is a wonderful facility that offers great coffee and delicious food that Live For More young ones can recommend!

You may want to check it out next time you’re at an event at the Arena!
